Change in the order of lectures

Due to personal circumstances, we had to change the order of the lectures. Next lecture will be given by Djoerd Hiemstra on Native XML DBMSs. The lectures on Streaming XML, XML Data Integration, and Document Transformation with XSLT will be given next week and the week after that. The roster on TeleTOP has been changed accordingly.

DB master students colloquium, Friday 24 February, 14:00 h.

On Friday's master students colloquium on 24 Februay 14.00 h. in room ZI-3126, the following people will present:

Robin Zagers will talk about his work at Gladior on optimizing on-line marketing using information gathered on page visits.
Harold van Heerde will talk about his final assignment on privacy policies for ambient intelligence.

PFTijah Wiki public

PFTijah is the name of an internal project we started wihtin MultimediaN MN5 semantic access. The main goal of the project is creating a flexible environment for setting up search systems by integrating the PathFinder XQuery system with our Tijah XML information retrieval system. Watch the Wiki for system releases and new features.

Lecture 1

Even though I had to do lecture 1 on the blackboard, there are slides to this lecture and they are available in the Roster and Archive. I hope the lecture was not too chaotic due to these circumstances. Nevertheless, in order to really master DTD's, XPath and XQuery on a sufficient level, you will have to use self-study using tutorials, homework series 1 and some experimenting of your own with the on-line demos. Furthermore, this was a rather atypical lecture, because all other lectures are based on research papers, so they have a more research flavour.
